“Let us be grateful to the people who make us happy; they are the charming gardeners who make our souls blossom”
Marcel Proust
This week I’m buying some flowers for my desk at work.
No big deal really; except that I’ve never done that. But I’ve been admiring the colourful selection at the flower stall I pass on my lunch hour for a while now and I’ve finally decided: it’s time.
Cash in hand, I peruse the cart at the corner of Burrard and Dunsmuir and find my myself drawn to the pink gerberas; which surprises me since I’m not really into pink as a rule, but these flowers just feel so vibrant and refreshing. I later learn that pink gerberas are a symbol of admiration and gratitude and often given as a token of thanks. How thoughtful of me! For only $5 I now have this amazing pink pop of gratitude to brighten my decidedly utilitarian work space.
Whenever I look over at my flowers I feel happy and energized and I’m pleased with this small enhancement. I think I’d like to do more, maybe print and hang one of my photographs at my desk? I only have a couple hundred to choose from after all. It begs the question: how have I worked here for over 6 years and never done this? Never personalized my work space? Oh well, one thing at a time.
This week it’s pink gerberas and I think I like it.
